SWAN Community Council has 3 new champions
At its meeting in February 2020, three Councillors were selected as “champion” and focal point for different aspects of the Council’s work.
Cllr Nick Cane was selected as the champion for Community Engagement. Nick has already been heavily involved in developing community events such as the V E Day celebration and the Great British Spring Clean. Sadly, after all his hard work the events were cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic but as Nick says:
“The safety of the Community is the highest priority. There was a lot of support for the events from both businesses and residents and there will always be other opportunities in the future, so the work and valuable experience wasn’t lost.”
If anyone has any ideas for community events or initiatives that can bring the community together you can contact Cllr Cane direct on nicholas.cane@swancc.org.uk or contact the Clerk, Rob Woods on clerk@swancc.org.uk or call 01233 528933
Cllr Paul Bohill was selected as the champion for Crime and Disorder reduction. Paul has long experience in this field and currently works as Senior Consultant at Direct Collection Bailiffs Ltd. He regularly appears as the voice of reason on the Channel 5 programme “Can’t pay, we’ll take it away”. Prior to being a bailiff, he worked for West Midlands Police where he was a fast response driver amongst other things and a co-founding member of the police underwater search unit.
If anyone is affected by crime and disorder issues, then Paul can be contacted on paul.bohill@swancc.org.uk or via the Clerk.
Cllr Nirosha Thilagarajan was selected as a champion for Environment and Climate Change.
Nirosha says:
“Outside of the Council, I work in the legal sector so this is a new role for me and a learning experience. The role is wide and increasing in importance – especially for the younger generation in the SWAN area who will be most affected by climate change in the future. It can involve anything from helping people with fly-tipping problems to advising the Council on wider issues involved with air purity and traffic pollution.”
If anyone is affected by environmental issues or feels the Council can help them to promote environmental awareness campaigns, Nirosha can be contacted on nirosha.thilagarajan@swancc.org.uk or via the Clerk.
