Councillors to discuss findings of the recent parking and traffic survey
When we are able to resume our meetings programme, Councillors will be discussing the findings of the recent parking and traffic survey. 215 responses were received from 34 different roads and we thank everyone who took the time to complete it.
Despite general support for priority interventions to solve parking problems, a further detailed analysis revealed that it was by no means a unanimous decision. 26% of the roads which responded considered Safety to be their priority whilst a smaller number, including Canterbury Road, saw Traffic/Pollution as theirs’.
Canterbury Road experiences a complex set of problems and although parking features highly for residents there, so too do other factors- such as the number of HGV traffic movements and a negative, knock-on effect of traffic enforcement in adjacent streets.
Chair of the SWAN Community Council’s Planning and Highways Committee, Charli Wilson says:
“Thank you to everyone who completed the survey forms. We now have a comprehensive picture of the challenges we face in the area and will publish the findings in full at the earliest opportunity. Whilst there are some things we could do now as a Council, we’ll also present the findings to Ashford Borough Council, which is the parking authority and Kent County Council, the highways authority with a view to seeking a longer-term traffic management policy”
